Gatz is not a retelling of the Great Gatsby story but an enactment of the actual book itself. Fitzgerald's masterpiece novel is delivered to the audience word for word, and startlingly brought to life by low-rent office staff in the midst of their inscrutable business operations.
In the shabby office of a mysterious business, an employee finds a copy of book The Great Gatsby amongst all the clutter on his desk. He begins to read the book out loud and doesn't stop. At first his colleagues hardly notice him, but after a series of strange coincidences, it's no longer totally clear whether he's reading the book or the book is actually transforming him!
