AVENUE Q
Avenue Q. which is playing at the Noel Coward Theatre in London's west end is sometimes described as a street-cred adult version of Sesame Street, Avenue Q uses a similar style of presentation to that of the popularAmerican children's show. Sesame Street style puppets are found in abundance, several of them being parodies of original characters in Jim Henson's show. Avenue Q like Sesame Street also uses a mix of live actors and puppet operators to carry the story.
Avenue Q is a show with an adult theme and although there may be puppets on stage, you won't find them dealing with issues of the Kindergarden! The Avenue Q puppets are portrayed as a group of twenty and thirty-somethings living in the crumbling back alleys of New York City. Their facial features are less slightly welcoming than Big Bird and co, etched with their experiences of life - and their topics of conversation echo this. On the agenda are attitudes towards pornography, racism and homosexuality. The language is colourful and the jokes crude. Avenue Q is most definitely not for those who are easily offended!

THE WOMAN IN BLACK
The Woman In Black at the Fortune Theatre follows in the footsteps of the classic ghost story, keeping the tradition of Charles Dickens, M.R James, Henry James and Edith Wharton. It is not a tale of terror or horror story, yet the events build up to a horrifying climax and instil a sense of horror. It relies on atmosphere, a vivid sense of place, on hints and glimpses and suggestions, on what is shadowy, heard and sometimes only half-seen, to chill the reader's blood to the marrow and make reading the book alone at night a bad idea for the faint-hearted.
