Cast Change For Charlie And The Chocolate Factory
7 Feb 2014Alex Jennings, the triple Olivier Award winner is set to take over managing the Chocolate Factory from Douglas Hodge as eccentric confectioner Willy Wonka in Sam Mendes’ hit musical at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane.. The actor, who last appeared in the West End in the National Theatre’s much acclaimed Untold Stories, will make his first appearance in the show on 19th May.
Jennings has won some of West End theatre’s most prestigious accolades from his roles in dramas, musicals and comedies, is renowned for his stage work. Some of his credits include The Habit Of Art, Stuff Happens and Collaborators at the National Theatre, and West End productions of The Importance Of Being Earnest and My Fair Lady. On screen, he has also appeared in numerous TV series and the hit movie The Queen.
Charlie And The Chocolate Factory features music and lyrics by Scott Wittman and Marc Shaiman with a book by David Greig and tells Roald Dahl’s classic story of a poor boy who finds one of five precious golden tickets allowing him access to a once in a lifetime opportunity to take a tour of Wonka’s treat-filled chocolate factory.
The show has already been seen by more than half a million people and recently extended its West End run until 30th May next year.
