A three-time Oscar and five-time Grammy Award winner, Legrand’s unique ear for a memorable tune and his towering skills as a jazz pianist and composer are honoured in powerful arrangements of some of his greatest hits, including The Windmills of Your Mind, Ray Blues, Summer of 42, The Umbrellas of Cherbourg, Dingo Rock and Yentl. Following Legrand’s death in January, this concert, which was to have been a celebration of his international standing as a jazz musician, now becomes a tribute to his everlasting impact on 20th century music; unforgettable melodies imprinted on the history of jazz, song, and film music. The Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Orchestra’s relationship with Legrand was cemented in 2017 during a four-day residency at Ronnie Scott’s which was an immediate sell-out and received rave reviews. Legrand held historic sessions with Miles Davis, Stan Getz, Phil Woods and Stéphane Grappelli, and meetings with the big names in classical music (Kiri Te Kanawa, Jessye Norman, Maurice André) and easy listening (Yves Montand, Barbra Streisand, Charles Aznavour). His songs were also sung by Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Louis Armstrong and Liza Minnelli, Legrand’s scores combined sophistication and the experimental ambition of jazz, creating some of the most memorable music in the movies.

Jason Pennycooke is a British multiple Olivier Award nominated and WhatsOnStage Award winning actor and choreographer and is one of the most decorated West End stars working today. Jason is currently playing the dual roles of ‘Marquis de Lafayette’ and ‘Thomas Jefferson’ in the West End production of the global sensation ‘Hamilton’, which began previews in December 2017, and for which he was nominated for the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role in a Musical. Jason also played the role of ‘Jacob’ in the Menier Chocolate Factory production of ‘La Cage Au Folles’ which subsequently transferred to the West End at the Playhouse Theatre, and the role of ‘Bobby’ in the West End production of ‘Memphis’, both of which saw him nominated for the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Performance in a Supporting Role in a Musical. He was also crowned the winner of the second series of ‘Popstar to Operastar’ in 2011 and the first series of ‘The Jump’ in 2014.
